O'Keefe "Pop" of Color

I decided to dress this guest bedroom with a very neutral color pallet of browns, blacks, whites, creams and golds, but felt it was borderline mundane.

To add a touch of color, I found this Georgia O'Keefe print, a reproduction of "Red Poppy No. VI", a vibrant painting of a red poppy.

The organic strokes in the painting tie into the shapes of the zebra print in the bed spread and the textures of the other fabrics in the room.  The warm colors of the flower help lift the warm wood tones of the flooring, and the bright red adds that colorful "pop" I was looking for.

Master Bedroom Makeover

This was a basic room makeover I did of a master bedroom.  Keeping most of the existing furnishings and ALL of the existing finishes, I simply rearranged the furnishings, replaced the bedding and window treatments, and added a few accessories to tie it all together.

The viewpoint of both photos is from the doorway looking into the bedroom.  Taking out the blue recliner, and moving the bed to the adjacent wall, makes the room seem more open and spacious.  The new arrangement also makes it easier to enter, move through and use the space.

The darker tones and rich textures of the bedding and valances add a nice, balanced contrast with the light wood tones of the furnishings and neutral finishes of the room.  Removing the floral, more feminine fabrics in the room create a more gender-neutral room.

With very little money spent, an hour of labor, and a little creative thinking, this master bedroom looks totally refreshed and inviting!

Waste bins out of ice buckets

My most recent project was to make waste bins out of some used ice buckets that I found.

The ice buckets are perfect for this function becacuse they are lined inside and can be cleaned out easily.  They also have a lid to contain odors and mask the unsightliness of garbage.

Each of the buckets were in pretty good shape -- just switching out some hardware, stripping some embellishments and adding a few of my own, resulted in decorative, retro trash cans.

Of course, here's the best part... Photos!
